START WITH THE BUSINESS

Start with the reason for changing platforms

Moving an online shop involves more than copying its visible pages. Seller’s Bay helps Irish businesses plan eCommerce migrations around their products, data, customer journeys and operational needs. Tell us where the store is now and what the next platform needs to do better.

A move may be prompted by difficult editing, platform limits, growing operational requirements or an unsustainable support arrangement. We clarify the problem before recommending a destination. The next platform should fit the business rather than simply replace the current one with a different set of limitations.

We then review the information and systems that need attention: products, variations, images, customer records, orders, page addresses and integrations. Not every element transfers in the same way. A useful migration plan identifies what can move, what needs preparation and what must be rebuilt or replaced.

CHOOSE THE SUPPORT YOU NEED

The main parts of a store migration project

The proposal confirms the work, deliverables and responsibilities for your project.

01

Platform and requirements assessment

We discuss the business needs and compare them with the intended destination setup. Catalogue complexity, fulfilment and staff workflow affect the choice. Platform, theme and app costs are considered alongside the build, with specialist requirements checked before a solution is promised.

02

Data review and transfer planning

We assess the available exports and the information required by the destination. Product types, variations, images and data quality can affect preparation. Customer and order records need separate consideration, with the agreed scope identifying which information will transfer and how it will be validated.

03

Store structure and page design

A migration can be an opportunity to improve the categories, content and buying journey, but those changes need planning. We develop the agreed structure and layouts around the new platform while identifying useful elements of the existing site that should be retained.

04

URL mapping and search considerations

Important old page addresses are reviewed alongside the destination structure. We plan appropriate redirects where URLs change and identify content that needs preserving or improving. Search performance may fluctuate during a move, so the process manages known requirements without promising unchanged rankings or traffic.

05

Integrations and operational checks

Payments, shipping, stock and other connected systems need to work with the destination platform. We assess the options and define the implementation and checking responsibilities. Existing tools may need replacing, additional subscriptions or provider involvement, all of which should be understood before launch.

06

Transition and post-launch review

We agree how the final transfer and launch will be handled, including relevant timing and checks. Order activity and catalogue changes during the build may affect the transition plan. Post-launch review can be included to inspect the agreed journeys and identify issues that need attention.

THE DETAILS THAT MATTER

Make the migration scope specific

Separate transfer from redesign

Moving a catalogue is different from rewriting product content, reorganising the range or developing new features. A project may include all of those tasks, but the scope should distinguish them so responsibilities and costs remain clear.

We also identify data that cannot be assumed to transfer cleanly. Old platform features, account behaviour and provider connections may work differently on the destination. We assess those differences before they become a surprise during the final stages of the project.

Plan around a trading business

An active shop continues receiving orders and product updates while a replacement is being built. We discuss how those changes will be handled and what must be checked before the destination becomes the live store. The approach depends on the systems and the business’s requirements.

We do not promise that every migration has no interruption or no effect on search. We agree a considered launch process, define the checks and make the remaining risks understandable. Hosting, access and backup responsibilities form part of that discussion.

A CLEAR WAY FORWARD

From platform decision to an agreed store transition

01

Assess the move

Understand the reason for migrating, review the data and connected systems, and agree the destination requirements.

02

Prepare and rebuild

Organise the data, develop the agreed store and resolve the required integrations, content and URL mapping.

03

Check and transition

Complete the scoped validation, carry out the agreed launch process and review the relevant store journeys afterwards.

Check the migration against the agreed requirements

The transfer needs to be assessed against a clear scope: which records moved, whether key content and URLs behave as planned and whether the agreed purchase journeys work. Search and sales trends provide additional context after launch, but they do not replace direct checks of the migration itself.

BEFORE YOU ENQUIRE

Your questions, answered

Can you migrate a store to Shopify or WooCommerce?

We can assess the current platform, available data and destination requirements. The feasibility and work involved depend on the catalogue, account features and integrations. We confirm the migration scope before committing to a specific transfer rather than assuming every platform supports the same route.

Will customer passwords and order history transfer?

That needs to be assessed for the source and destination systems. Some information may need a different account process or a separate transfer method. We identify the requirements and limitations before the move so customer access and historical records are not left as assumptions.

Can you preserve our existing product URLs?

We review the current addresses and the destination platform’s structure. Some URLs may be retained, while others require mapping and redirects. The plan identifies the important routes, but platform constraints and the final content structure influence what is possible.

Will there be downtime?

The launch approach depends on the systems, data and operational requirements. We discuss how the final transfer and cutover will be managed, including any expected interruption or limitation. Zero downtime should not be assumed before the specific migration has been assessed.

Can you redesign the shop as part of the migration?

Yes. The project can include a new design and content structure alongside the move. We distinguish that work from data transfer, integrations and launch preparation so the scope is understandable. Product rewriting and new features are included only when agreed.

Will the move affect SEO?

It can. Changes to URLs, content and technical behaviour may affect search performance. We plan important redirects and relevant launch checks, but cannot guarantee unchanged rankings or traffic. Continuing monitoring and SEO work can be discussed as part of the post-launch plan.
